The 91ºÚÁÏÍø Division of Nephrology had a lot to celebrate this spring, with national recognition for our faculty and trainees alike.
Dr. Tomoko Takano was awarded the by the Kidney Foundation of Canada, one of the country’s highest research honours. Presented annually to a Canadian researcher recognized nationally and internationally for their career accomplishments in kidney research, this award has only been given to 31 individuals to date. It’s especially noteworthy that two of those recipients, Dr. Takano in 2025 and Dr. Cybulsky in 2023, are from our very own Division of Nephrology at 91ºÚÁÏÍø. That both honours went to our division in such a short time speaks to the strength of our Nephrology team across Canada.
Dr. Bernard Unikowsky was awarded the by the Canadian Society of Nephrology. This award recognizes a teacher who is recognized locally, nationally and/or internationally as an outstanding and inspirational teacher.
Dr. Rita Suri was named a recipient of the  by the Kidney Foundation of Canada. This medal recognizes exceptional leaders who have made significant contributions to kidney health, organ donation, and transplantation in Canada.
Dr. Somaya Zahran and Dr. Lawrence Slapcoff, both PGY5 Nephrology Fellows, won the 2025 Canadian Society of Nephrology Fellows’ Trivia Contest.
