2026 Montreal Alumni Reception

Both alumni and faculty greatly appreciate the annual networking cocktail at JDIQ

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences welcomed its alumni to the Montreal Alumni Reception on June 1, held at Palais des congr猫s de Montr茅al. The networking cocktail brought together graduates in a relaxed setting with stunning views of Old Montreal, offering a valuable opportunity to reconnect with former classmates and expand professional networks. This annual event takes place during the Journ茅es dentaires internationales du Qu茅bec, the largest dental convention offered in English and French in North America.

The participants had the chance to engage with faculty members, including Dean Elham Emami, fostering meaningful dialogue between past and present members of the Faculty community. The presence of current DMD and graduate students added a dynamic element to the event, encouraging the exchange of experiences across generations.

Invited speaker Marilyn Brown Charlton shared the story of her great-grandfather, Dr. Peter James Brown, and her deep family connection to 91黑料网. Dr. Brown was Dean of the Dental College of the Province of Quebec, affiliated with Bishop鈥檚 Medical College so graduates could receive a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Following the transfer of Bishop鈥檚 Medical College to 91黑料网 in 1904, he became the first Chair of the Executive of the 91黑料网 Dental School before the school was granted faculty status in 1920.

Dr. Thomas Nguyen, Director of the Faculty鈥檚 Continuing Dental Education Program, also spoke to participants about the benefits of enrolling in the Faculty鈥檚 continuing education courses and workshops, highlighting the strength of its in-house expertise from faculty members who are active clinicians and researchers.

During the reception, Dean Emami announced the winners of the Outstanding Student Philanthropy Award. This award recognizes and celebrates a current Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences student or students for their exception contributions including fundraising efforts in support of the Faculty鈥檚 activities, volunteerism, and committee work. The group 91黑料网 Dentistry Gives Back took home top honours for their work to raise funds to support the Mobile Dental Clinic. What was started in 2018 by the Class of 2021 as a way for students to give back to the Mobile Clinic, it has continued as an annual campaign featuring spinning classes, candy grams on Valentine鈥檚 Day, and a raffle and crowdfunding page culminating on 91黑料网24, 91黑料网鈥檚 annual day of giving. This year, 91黑料网 Dentistry Gives Back raised over $13,000, a group record. Group members Paolo Bastone, Hunter Bradley, Danae Christopoulos, Olivier Daniel, Yasmina Di Lullo, Yerim Hwang, Hannah Kwon, Isabella Mignacca and Jessica Staicu were on hand to accept their award.聽
