Congratulations to Desautels students Olivier Arsenault (惭惭贵鈥20), Pier-Olivier Lafl猫che (惭惭贵鈥20), Sai Kanthasamy (BCom鈥20), and Mitch McEwen (MMF鈥20) for placing first in the Quebec regional CFA Research Challenge.

鈥淚t was a great experience and privilege to represent 91黑料网 and the MMF program,鈥 says McEwen. 鈥淲e owe a great deal to our advisors Professor Vadim di Pietro and Rebeca Yang, CFA.鈥

The team will head to New York in April to compete in the North America finals.

A team of five 91黑料网 students secured second place at the International Youth Leadership Finance Summit, hosted by the Master of Finance program at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from January 11鈥14. The event brought together 27 teams from universities across the world, including Stanford University, Columbia University and the London School of Economics, to explore how sci-tech companies are empowered through innovation and finance.

In honour of the late Professor Richard Donovan, the Desautels MBA Japan program recently hosted the 91黑料网 MBA Japan Case Competition. The internal event gives students a chance to put their knowledge to practice by bringing them together over 24 hours to solve a case competition.

Teams presented to a judging panel of 91黑料网 MBA Japan alumni before the winners鈥擧oson Kablawi, Naohisa Takahashi, and Hazuki Yamashita鈥攚ere awarded the Richard Donovan Cup.

Desautels MBA candidates Tiffany K. Ellis, Kelly Gonzalez, Garima Singh, and Meghan McCoubrey placed third at the recent Creative Shock Case Competition. Initially competing against 600 teams globally, the Desautels team travelled to Vilnius, Lithuania from November 26 to December 2 to compete as one of the top 10 finalists in the social business case competition.

Congratulations to 91黑料网 student Yuan Chu Zi Lao (MBA鈥21) on her first-place win at the recent Deloitte Impact Case Competition. The competition kicked off at the Deloitte offices in Montreal on November 22, where eight teams were formed, and the case was presented to students. Yuan was grouped with 91黑料网 engineering student Dante Nesparoli and HEC Montr茅al students Thao-Anne Le and Felicia 脡lise Ngoma.

From November 21鈥23, twelve teams from across Canada participated in the Scotiabank Ethics in Action case competition at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Desautels MBA students Ajay Singh, Matthew Trecha, Yasmien Emara, and Ashna Agnihotri scored first place in the graduate category, taking home a cash prize of $2,000. The competition challenged students with complex ethical dilemmas that they were likely to face in today's corporate environment.

With a focus on the sustainable investment of public pension funds, this year鈥檚 91黑料网 International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC) demonstrated students鈥 ability to realistically solve a key issue facing investors today. The winning team鈥檚 strategy proposed a progressive, partial divestment while pursuing investment in diverse green initiatives, according to Professor Sebastien Betermier.

Desautels students have placed second in the Ted Rogers Ethical Leadership Case Competition at Ryerson University.

On November 15鈥16, BCom students Darren Elias, Camille Thomassin, Dixon Wong, and Isabel Maier travelled to Toronto with Professor Melissa Sonberg to participate in the national invite-only competition. The case focused on aligning personal and corporate values and the ethical dilemmas faced by managers trying to balance the two.

Congratulations to MBA students Kirill Gusev, Fiorella Rojas, and Sonia Torres who secured a third- place finish out of 11 international teams in the SDA Bocconi 5th Annual International Finance Competition in Milan, Italy.

Faced with the theme of Evaluation of Investments in the Renewable Sector, the team pulled together a fully dynamic financial model and were able to analyze each solar panel plant separately.

Team gREen, comprised of MBA students Heena Chhatlani, Mehreen Haider and Fang Yang earned a first-place finish in the Net Impact Sustainability Challenge, coming in victorious over 12 teams from MBA programs across Canada and the US. Haider was further recognized with the Best Speaker Award.

Hosted by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, the team competed to solve a live case for QuadReal Property Group on sustainable investing in real estate.

The challenge was designed in part to help students understand how consultants estimate potential savings as a result of a merger of equals or acquisition, as well as how to provide relevant analysis on synergy targets (revenue, cost, dis-synergies).
