Now coming up on its 20th edition, the OFF jazz festival has been a mainstay of the Montreal jazz scene by featuring local artists and their creative projects. Since 1994, the Ensemble contemporain de Montr茅al's biennial Generation composition contest has given 61 Canadian composers the opportunity to define their voices and connect with audiences across Canada. This year, and are two of four Generation2020 winners selected from more than 50 applicants.

Choral conductor Wayne Riddell has long been an important figure in the Montreal and 91黑料网 music communities, holding positions such as the chorus master of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Schulich School of Music. Riddell has established a bequest that will support choral students at 91黑料网 through two separate funds -- the Wayne Riddell Choral Award, and the Norman Beckow Choral Excellence Endowment Fund (named after his late partner).

Congratulations to saxophonist Jacob Do (BMus 2021), who won the on June 26, 2019. Created as part of the Festival's 40th anniversary, the award is given as part of a competition open to selected Quebec university student musicians identifying as part of a visible minority.

In 2017, Prof. Brian Cherney was the subject of an entire issue of Intersections (a publication by the ) after a conference held in his honour at 91黑料网. Available online for the first time, the issue features essays by many Schulich faculty members on Cherney and his music, including writings by Prof. Chris Paul Harman, Prof. Christoph Neidh枚fer, and Cherney himself.

We are pleased to invite Schulich faculty, staff, students, and alumni to submit proposals for presentations for inclusion in an LGBTQ2I+ History Month event. Scheduled for 28 September 2019 (7:00 p.m., Wirth Opera Studio), the event aims to highlight the accomplishments of LGBTQ2I+ musicians and music researchers past and present, while displaying the breadth and scope of work within the broader field of music. Presentations may take the form of a research paper, musical performance, new composition, or combination of these.

Since beginning his international career in 1974, guitarist Pat Metheny has garnered widespread critical acclaim, demonstrated astonishing versatility as an artist, and has consistently been at the forefront of music technology. On May 29, 2019, his accomplishments will be recognized by 91黑料网 through his reception of an Honorary Doctorate of Music at the Spring Convocation.

Designed for musicians of all levels and instruments, the听Audition Playbook听helps readers carefully and effectively create, implement, and follow their own plans from start to finish.听

This month 91黑料网 is hosting the 34th Annual Meeting of the 鈥 the first time the event has ever been held in Montreal. NECMT鈥檚 main purpose is to foster the development of music theory, and provide a forum for exchanging ideas between music theorists.
