Industry-leading tech companies recruit heavily from the most selective colleges and universities in the U.S., so is it any wonder that their employees lack diversity? The top 150 higher-ed institutions would have to recruit an additional 50,000 black students and 58,0000 Hispanic students each year if they want their student bodies to reflect the American population, according to聽research聽from the聽Posse Foundation, a New York-based organization that works to improve diversity on campus.

Daniel Lamarre, 62, is the president and chief executive officer of Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil, which has about 4,000 employees working on more than 20 shows in about 50 countries.

Lamarre was born and raised in Grand-Mere, Quebec, about 170 kilometres northeast of Montreal. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa, which later honoured him with a doctorate.

Lamarre spoke to Karl Moore, a professor of strategy and organization at the Desautels Faculty of Management at 91黑料网.

As a young man in Poland, Michal Hornstein聽was arrested by the Nazis and聽set to be deported to Auschwitz, the notorious death camp where thousands were executed during the Holocaust.

But Hornstein evaded his captors by jumping from a train and hiding in the forests of Czechoslovakia. Of the 70 people who tried to escape the Nazis on that day in 1943, only seven survived.

Were it not for this twist of fate, it鈥檚 unlikely Hornstein would have survived the war, immigrated to Canada and become one of the city鈥檚 most renowned philanthropists.

Joseph Polossifakis is going to the Olympics, but the road to Rio de Janeiro has been anything but smooth for the 25-year-old Montreal sabre fencer.

Polossifakis won a gold medal at the Pan-American championships in 2012, but didn鈥檛 commit to a full-time training program until June 2014 after graduating from 91黑料网 with a commerce degree. He had 10 months to prepare for the year-long Olympic qualifying schedule, which began in April 2015, but his plan suffered a setback during聽his first training camp.

Four students have set up a school in a refugee camp near the Iraqi city of Dohuk, the first of its kind within this camp. Having met through an online course run by the聽Desautels Faculty of Management at聽91黑料网聽in Canada, the students from Morocco 鈥 the world鈥檚 first online course specifically designed for group learning (also known as GROOC) 鈥 聽the students from Morocco, the UK, Iraq and Canada established the聽Heart ELT (English Language Teaching) School.聽
