Myostatin is a paracrine myokine that regulates muscle mass in a variety of species, including humans. In this work, they report a functional role for myostatin as an endocrine hormone that directly promotes pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis and thereby ovarian function in mice. Previously, this FSH-stimulating role was attributed to other members of the transforming growth factor-尾 family, the activins. Their results both challenge activin's eponymous role in FSH synthesis and establish an unexpected endocrine axis between skeletal muscle and the pituitary gland.

Julius Alessandro Xanthoudakis (BCom'20, MMF鈥25) has been named the 2024 Peter Christoffersen MMF Award recipient, recognizing his academic excellence and contributions to the 91黑料网 Master of Management in Finance (MMF) program.

Simon Caron-Huot, Professor and Canada Research Chair in High-Energy Physics, has been awarded a 2025 Dorothy Killam Fellowship.鈥疶he prestigious Dorothy Killam Fellowship is part of Canada鈥檚 National Killam Program, which also includes the Killam Prize. The presence and concentration of PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," in聽fertilizing residual materials聽will be monitored under new standards in Quebec through a management code, according to Quebec's Environment Ministry.

Quebec's code on the management of fertilizing residual materials聽such as sewage sludge,聽also known as聽biosolids鈥攚hich come from treating municipal or industrial wastewater鈥攚ill take effect Nov. 1.

The code聽takes聽into account a total of聽13 types of substances聽and includes monitoring guidelines.
