Prior to FICCI\, he\nwas Director and Chief Executive of the Ind ian Council for Research\non International Economic Relations (ICRIER)\, o ne of India’s\nleading independent economic policy thinktanks. He is a mem ber of\nthe International Advisory Council of the King Abdullah Petroleum \nStudies and Research Centre (KAPSARC)\, Riyadh. Dr. Kumar was a\nmember of the National Security Advisory Board for 2006-2008 as\nwell as a non-ex ecutive director on the Central Board of the State\nBank of India for thre e years ending September 2011.\nFrom 1987-1989\, Dr. Kumar was a Professor at the Indian\nInstitute of Foreign Trade. Subsequently\, he worked for t he\nGovernment of India from 1989 to 1995\, first in the Bureau of\nIndust rial Costs and Prices\, Ministry of Industry and then as\nEconomic Adviser in the Department of Economic Affairs Ministry of\nFinance. In 1995\, Dr. Kumar joined the Asian Development Bank in\nManila and assumed several po sitions during his ten-year term.\nIn 2004\, he returned to India to join the Confederation of\nIndian Industries (CII)\, New Delhi as Chief Economi st.\nHe has a DPhil in Economics from Oxford University and a PhD\nfrom Lu cknow University. His latest book\, Many Futures of\nIndia\, published in April 2011\, is a compilation of his\ncolumns in some of India’s leading d ailies.
