In The Master\nSwit ch\, Wu speaks of the cycle of monopolization that has beset the\ndevelopm ent of information technologies from the telegraph to the\ntelephone\, and finally\, the Internet. Referring to\ntelecommunications giant AT&T\, and more recently Apple\, Comcast\nand Google\, Wu identifies a cycle progres sing from an\nopenly-operated technology to one increasingly controlled by \ncorporations in a closed system.
