She is the 2010 recipient of the\nLouis and Artur Lucian Award for Research in Circulatory\nDiseases.\n\n'Our research program has focused for three decades on trying to\nbetter\nunderstand the mechanisms leading to pulmonary arterial\nhypertension (PAH) with the long-range vie w that we might better\ntreat this devastating condition. We focused on un derstanding the\nlink between the genetics and the cell pathobiology and d iscovered\nrelationships between degradation of elastin by an endogenous\n elastase\, loss of pre-capillary vessels\, and proliferation of\nvascular cells in larger pre- and intra-acinar pulmonary\narteries.\nWe showed that suppression of elastase activity could reverse\nexperimentally-induced PA H. We recently discovered molecular\npathways downstream of the gene that is mutant in familial PAH\,\ni.e.\, bone morphogenetic protein receptor (B MPR)II that explain how\nactivation of this receptor protects EC from apop tosis and\nresulting precapillary loss and also attenuates PA SMC\nprolife ration in response to growth factors. Major work from our\nlab using human cells and genetically modified mice is eludicating\ninteractions between BMPRII-PPARg mediated gene regulation and Wnt\nsignaling.”\n DTSTART:20110525T153000Z DTEND:20110525T163000Z SUMMARY:Special seminar: Dr. Marlene Rabinovitch URL:/channels/event/special-seminar-dr-marlene-rabinov itch-174380 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
