  activity by the Barreau du Québec as Mandatory Continuing\nLegal Educatio
 n.\nDiminished mental capacity is an issue with wide-ranging\nimplications
  for the life of a person and her or his loved ones.\nThis bilingual exper
 t panel will discuss the importance of adopting\na multidisciplinary appro
 ach to mental capacity.\nCurrent responses and challenges with regard to d
 iminished\nmental capacity will be described from the perspective of medic
 al\nresearchers and clinicians\, social workers\, government agencies\,\np
 ro bono legal actors\, legal researchers and the judiciary.\nPanellists wi
 ll also discuss how differing professional approaches\ncould be coordinate
 d to centre around the key values of presumption\nof capacity\, promotion 
 of autonomy\, maximisation of positive family\nand social connections\, an
 d support for residual capacity. The\npanel will emphasize the particular 
 vulnerability of persons with\ndiminished capacity within the medical and 
 legal systems\, and the\nneed for increased comprehensiveness\, sensitivit
 y and collaboration\namong professionals in these areas. This collaborativ
 e approach\nwould allow for determinations of capacity and protections whi
