 und Table is a unique international\nconference devoted entirely to surgic
 al issues in the\ndeveloping world\, annually held in Canada.\nNorman Beth
 une (1890-1939) was a pioneer in global\nsurgery\, developing innovative a
 pproaches to surgical care during\nboth the Spanish Civil war and the Seco
 nd Sino-Japanese war. During\nhis professional life\, Dr. Bethune exemplif
 ied true advocacy for\nthe underserved populations both locally and abroad
 . Having spent a\nsignificant proportion of his career at the Royal Victor
 ia Hospital in Montreal\, the MUHC\nis honoured to host the Bethune Round 
 Table and remember Norman\nBethune’s legacy.\nThe Bethune Round Table was 
 initiated as a forum to propagate\nDr. Bethune’s vision as well as foster 
 new ideas for the further\ndevelopment of global surgery. One of the highl
 ights of this forum\nis the presence of a truly diverse global representat
 ion of\nspeakers and attendees allowing for not only the sharing of\nresea
 rch\, education\, and clinical experiences in low- and\nmiddle-income nati
 ons\, but also for the creation of new\nlong-lasting partnerships. The Rou
 nd Table brings together\npracticing physicians and allied health workers 
 involved in\nsurgical care from Canada and across the world to discuss iss
 ues\nand present research on surgical care in low to middle income\ncountr
 ies.\nThe 2011 meeting will focus on\, but not be limited to\, three\ncent
 ral themes:\n1) Augmenting global surgical capacity\n2) Global surgical ed
 ucation and\n3) Disaster preparedness and response.\nRegistration Fees:\nA
