It involves\nqua ntifying all water inputs and outputs in a closed system.\nSeveral hydrolo gic devices were used to determine the components of\nthe soil water balan ce in a field-scale\, artificially-drained\,\nmonocropped corn site in Sai nt Emmanuel\,... Quebec. Three of these\ndevices will be described\, along with preliminary results obtained\nso far for the balance.\n\n\nSimone wa s born in Sydney\, Australia but moved to Quebec at a very\nyoung age. She completed her undergraduate degree in Bioresource\nEngineering and is cur rently pursuing her MSc in Bioresource\nEngineering as well. She enjoys al l things outdoors and can’t wait\nfor the snow to arrive so she can get on the mountain!\n\n\nItem 2: Seminar by Leyüze Kozanoğlu\nMemorial Reefs\n \nMemorials serve as a means of coping with the loss of a loved one\nby ma king the statement that the person will never be forgotten.\nTraditional t echniques range from gravestones to statues. But what\nabout coral reefs? Leyüze is going to enlighten the audience on a\nnew approach to making tha t memory last “forever”.\n\nLeyüze Kozanoğlue is from Adana\, a major city in Turkey on the\nMediterrenean coast. She graduated from the University of Western\nOntario with a double major in Finance and Economics and then \nworked for the Citigroup in Istanbul as a wealth manager for 2\nyears. L ast year she completed a graduate certificate in Green\nBusiness Managemen t and currently she is enrolled in the MSc in the\nIntegrated Water Resour ces Management program.\n\n\nItem 3: Seminar by Pansa Liplap\nEffects of H yperbaric Treatment on Respiration Rates\n\nQuality attributes and storage life of fruits and vegetables after\nharvest have been a worldwide concer n for many years. One important\naspect is the rate of respiration. Today there are many methods\nthat are used to reduce the respiration ratesso as to improve the\npostharvest life and quality of fresh fruits and vegetabl es. One\nemerging method of respiration rate control is called “Hyperbaric \nTreatment”.\n\nPansa is from Thailand. He completed his BEng and MEng in \nagricultural and food engineering. After a few years of work\, he\nobtai ned a scholarship to pursue PhD studies in the Department of\nBioresource Engineering at 91.\n\n\nItem 4: Seminar by Juan Pablo Reig \nLiving Shorelines\n\nThe use of living shorelines is an alternative to t raditional\nshoreline stabilization methods. Overall\, the aim is to mimic the\nnatural coastal profile\, not only stabilizing the shoreline\, but\n also re-creating the habitat and the natural buffer historically\nfound al ong them.\n\nJuan Pablo grew up in Spain\, where he graduated from the Uni versity\nof Navarra with a BS in environmental and agricultural biology.\n After having worked for four years as an ecological restoration\nproject m anager in the US and Latin America\, he went back to school\nand is now a graduate student in the IWRM program.\n\n\nItem 5: Seminar by Shrikalaa Ka nnan\nEastern Mysticism and Quantum Physics\n\nThe possible link between e astern philosophy and quantum physics\nhas been explored in a number of re cent articles. This has resulted\nin a variety of responses from the acade mic community\, with some\nmembers arguing for and some against such a rel ationship. The idea\nbehind this presentation is to examine the relationsh ip between the\nquantum physics and eastern mysticism by discussing specif ic\nexamples of parallelism between these two spheres.\n\nShrikalaa was bo rn in India where she completed a B. Tech in\nBiotechnology from the PSG C ollege of Technology in Tamil Nadu. She\nis currently in her first year as an MSc candidate under the\nsupervision of Dr. Raghavan.\n DTSTART:20101125T150000Z DTEND:20101125T163000Z LOCATION:Raymond Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9X 3V9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:BIORESOURCE ENGINEERING SEMINAR URL:/channels/event/bioresource-engineering-seminar-16 9795 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
