The understanding\nof these interactions for spheri cal particles is well developed and\nwidely exploited to make 2-D and 3-D ordered materials.\nAnisotropically shaped particles have far greater degr ees of\nfreedom\, and can orient\, align\, and assemble into complex\nstru ctures and networks that depend subtly on the particle shape\nand the shap e of the interface which hosts the particles. In this\ntalk\, progress in developing a quantitative understanding of pair\ninteractions between part icles is described. Experiments on a\nvariety of particle shapes are prese nted to illustrate a range of\npossibilities including assembly of particl es with complex features\nin registry\, docking sites\, and the molding of particle aggregate\nstructures by using the background shape of the inter face to force\nnew equilibrium alignments. Open issues associated with the \nstructure and mechanical properties of aggregates\, and their\ndependenc e on particle geometry and near-field particle\ninteractions are described . These issues ultimately determine the\nmechanical response of particle-l aden interfaces\, important in\nparticle stabilized (Pickering) emulsions and tailored\ncolloidosomes.\n DTSTART:20101025T200000Z DTEND:20101025T210000Z LOCATION:Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Capillary interactions between anisotropic particles URL:/channels/event/capillary-interactions-between-ani sotropic-particles-168418 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
