 r Human Rights (RHR).\nRabbis for Human Rights (RHR) was established\nwith
  the purpose of giving voice to the Zionist ideal and the\nJewish religiou
 s tradition of human rights.  Since its\ninception in 1988\, RHR has champ
 ioned the cause of the poor in\nIsrael\, supported the rights of Israel’s 
 minorities and\nPalestinians\, worked to stop the abuse of foreign workers
 \,\nendeavored to guarantee the upkeep of Israel’s public health care\nsys
 tem\, promoted the equal status of women\, helped Ethiopian Jews\,\nbattle
 d trafficking in women\, and more.\nWhile recognizing Israel's obligation 
 to secure the safety of\nits citizens\, RHR also insists upon respect for 
 Palestinian rights.\nRHR works both through the legal system and on the gr
 ound to stop\nsettlers from preventing Palestinians from reaching their fi
 elds\nand taking over private Palestinian lands and tries to prevent\ndemo
 litions by Israeli authorities of Palestinian homes.\nIn the legal field\,
  RHR conducts a continuous supervision of the\nlegal authorities' actions\
 , submit objections to\nplanning/supervision committees as well as legal p
 etitions to the\nhigh court. It rebuilds houses that have already been dem
 olished\,\nplants olive trees to replace those that have been purposefully
 \nuprooted\, and assists Palestinians to carry out their agricultural\nwor
 k safely and minimize the violence during their work. Where\npossible\, th
 e activity is coordinated with the IDF and security\nforces.\nRHR has no a
 ffiliation with any political party or ideology. RHR\nreceived in 1993 “Th
 e Speaker of the Knesset’s Award for the\nQuality of Life in the Field of 
 Enhancing the Rule of Law and\nDemocratic Values\, Protecting Human Rights
 \, and Encouraging\nTolerance and Mutual Respect.” In 2006\, RHR was award
 ed the\nprestigious Niwano Peace Prize for its efforts to promote peace in
 \nan interfaith context.\n
