 .\nThe term domain comes from the Latin dominium.\nIt expresses the idea o
 f a person’s power\, a person’s\ndomination\, and corresponds to owners’ e
 xclusive control\nover their things\, their right to use and enjoy the pro
 perty that\nthey own. In this light\, domain and property are\nsynonyms.\n
 The idea or the imagery of a domination\, taken up again\nin the Middle Ag
 es\, offers another meaning\, narrower\, but still in\nuse: the public dom
 ain\, designating the entirety of the\nproperty belonging to the Sovereign
 \, property which is\, due to\nthis\, imprescriptible\, unseizable\, and i
 nalienable.\nWhen deployed as a metaphor\, the expression public\ndomain a
 lso designates the creations of the human mind that\nare not subject to an
  intellectual monopoly\, in particular because\nthis right has expired or 
 has been abandoned. Rather than embody\nthe idea of an assemblage of state
 -owned property or of an\nappropriation\, the expression encompasses inste
 ad the incorporeal\nthings which can be freely used. They are not under ap
 propriation\,\nand quite often cannot be appropriated. In this light\, pub
 lic\ndomain and property would be antonyms…\nFrom exclusive control of thi
 ngs to free use of them\, the\nconcept of domain evokes a set of metaphors
  which allow us\nto better grasp our conception of classical property and
