DESCRIPTION:Over the last decade\, the town of Buea-Cameroon has been\nexpe
 riencing rapid population growth\, unsustainable agricultural\ndevelopment
  and poor waste management practices which are\nsignificantly affecting wa
 tershed resources and water supply. In an\nattempt to better understand th
 e Buea situation\, a field survey was\norganised to appreciate the state o
 f water supply infrastructure\,\nwater source management practices\, and c
 onsumers’ perspective of\nthe quality of water supply services. Household 
 questionnaires\,\nsemi-structured interviews and a roundtable policy dialo
 gue were\nused to collect data on the gravity of the crisis\, coping\nstra
 tegies and current policy initiatives. Our preliminary findings\nshow that
  there is lack of awareness\, lack of strategic local\npartnership and the
  lack of participatory stakeholder governance to\neffectively address wate
 rshed issues for improved water supply.\nThis study has identified the nee
 d for collaborative platforms in\nwater management to promote awareness an
 d linkages between\npopulation growth\, economic development\, watershed a
 ctivities\,\ncapacity building and poverty alleviation.\n
