DESCRIPTION:Ian McKay is Professor\, Department of History\, Queen’s\nUnive
 rsity\, and 2008-2009 Eakin Visiting Fellow in Canadian Studies\nat the Mc
 Gill Institute for the Study of Canada. Professor McKay\nhas taught Canadi
 an History at Queen's since 1988. His research\ninterests lie in Canadian 
 cultural history\, in the economic and\nsocial history of the Atlantic Reg
 ion of Canada in the nineteenth\nand twentieth centuries\, and in the hist
 ory of Canada as a liberal\norder. For a Working-class Culture in Canada: 
 A Selection of\nColin McKay’s Writing on Sociology and Political Economy\,
  1897-1939\n(St. John’s\, 1996) and The Quest of the Folk:\nAntimodernism 
 and Cultural Selection in Twentieth-Century Nova\nScotia (Kingston & Montr
 eal\, 1994) are two recent\npublications. He is presently working on books
  about memory and the\npublic past\, the history of Canadian socialism\, a
 nd the life and\ntimes of Maurice Spector\, Canada’s pre-eminent Marxist t
 hinker of\nthe 1920s and 1930s.\n
