Abstract: The theory of strong interactions\, QCD\, has excitation s that are well described by strings. These strings appear most simply in theories with a large number of colors\, instead of the three colors we ha ve in QCD. For theories that are similar in spirit to QCD one can relate t hese gauge theory strings to the strings of quantum gravity. In particular \, some ten dimensional geometries are associated to four dimensional quan tum field theories. We will describe how to use this relation to learn abo ut strongly interacting quantum field theories. This relation also elucida tes the black hole information puzzle.\n DTSTART:20080328T193000Z DTEND:20080328T203000Z LOCATION:Rutherford Physics Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2T8\, 3600 rue University SUMMARY:QCD\, strings and black holes: A duality between gravity and field theory URL:/channels/event/qcd-strings-and-black-holes-dualit y-between-gravity-and-field-theory-29454 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
