  an overview of key principles and issues in the design and application of
  qualitative and quantitative methods in socio-legal research. Topics to b
 e discussed include: research design in the social sciences\, the basic fe
 atures of qualitative and quantitative methods\, case selection principles
  and sampling strategies\, the practical aspects of fieldwork\, and ethica
 l considerations. The workshop will also feature an exercise in which part
 icipants will be given the opportunity to imagine how one of the following
  methods might apply to their research: ethnography\, narrative inquiry\,
