The major cause of continued deterioration in the g lobal environment is unsustainable consumption and production\, particular ly in industrialized countries. However\, there is strong evidence that tr ansitioning to a sustainable economy and circular economy can lead to high er economic growth while reducing the impact on the environment. Industry is becoming aware that\, to meet today’s demanding environmental standards \, the life-cycle impacts of a production system must be understood and op timized.  In response\, many designers are focusing on addressing the envi ronmental impacts of products. This presentation will discuss a proposed f ramework and methodology for sustainable production and highlight initiati ves in this area.  A discussion of 'remanufacturing'\; a key enabling tech nology to sustainable production\, will also be presented outlining indust ry history\, technologies\, and practices.\n\n About the Speaker\nDr. Nabil Nasr is Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Director of the Golisa no Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology. He h as worked in the fields of sustainable production\, remanufacturing\, and sustainable product development for over 28 years\, and is founder of the Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery\, a leading source of app lied research and solutions in remanufacturing technologies.  He has devel oped strong ties to industry through efforts to implement and improve sust ainable design and remanufacturing processes at hundreds of companies from diverse sectors.  Dr. Nasr has served as an expert delegate for the U.S. government in several international forums including the Asia Pacific Econ omic Cooperation and the World Trade Organization and was recently named a s a member of the International Resource Panel of the United Nations Envir onment Programme.  Dr. Nasr earned a Ph.D. in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from Rutgers University.\nOther TISED events coming up here! \n DTSTART:20150910T213000Z DTEND:20150910T230000Z LOCATION:Room 1090\, Trottier Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C6\, 363 0 rue University SUMMARY:Sustainable Production and Circular Economy URL:/channels/event/sustainable-production-and-circula r-economy-254947 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
