Sam Harper and Arijit Nandi have received funding to help strengthen national capacity in metaresearch through the Research-on-Research joint initiative, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and Michael Smith Health Research BC (MSHRBC).

53 91�� research projects were awarded funding through CIHR’s Spring 2025 Project Grant competition, to support high-potential health research across all areas and career stages.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) recently announced a total national investment of $411 million through the CIHR Spring 2025 Project Grant competition, funding 444 grants led by 428 lead investigators. At 91��, 53 projects were funded for a total research investment of $48.4 million.

In an announcement made Wednesday, Canada’s leading research ranking organization, RE$EARCH Infosource, scored 91�� second among an A-list of three in the Medical/Doctoral Research University of the Year (RUY) tier. 91�� was ranked third on RE$EARCH Infosource’s list of Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities in 2022, a position the University has maintained for four years. These distinctions reflect, in part, 91��'s strength in attracting research funding and the strong publishing record of the school's professors.

Painting a picture of the oral health of Canadians

A new study “Oral health and oral health care of Canadians” led by Prof. Paul Allison of 91��’s Faculty of Dentistry, has received $3.3 million of funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to support a collaboration with Statistics Canada’s existing Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) to gather data and address oral health-related knowledge gaps. The study is a partnership involving all ten Canadian dental schools across the country.

Youth violence lower in countries with complete ban on corporal punishment

A study published today in the BMJ Open shows that in countries where there is a complete ban on all corporal punishment of children there is less fighting among young people. There was 31% less physical fighting in young men and 42% less physical fighting in young women in countries where corporal punishment was banned in all settings, compared with those where corporal punishment was permitted both at school and at home.
