Much research has been devoted to different aspe cts of Maimonides’ work. Despite the abundance of research on Maimonides\, very little has been written about Maimonides as a jurist in general\, an d about his tort theory in particular.\n\nThis research presents\, for the first time\, Maimonides’ complete tort theory in and of itself. This rese arch compares Maimonides’ theory with other pre-modern tort theories both in the Jewish world and beyond it\, in Maimonides’ times and prior thereto \, and as compared with modern Western theories. The study will present bo th the details of the rulings relating to tort\, and will seek to establis h a rational\, systematic legal theory – a theory that allows for a full p resentation and overview of Maimonides’ comprehensive conception of tort l aw\, its objectives\, and its foundations.\n\nWe will mention several surp rising points of similarity between certain elements of the theories that were formulated by the cream of the scholars from leading North American u niversities and between significant elements of the Maimonidean theory tha t was conceived eight hundred years ago in Egypt. Alongside the similarity between the theories\, we will highlight significant differences\, some o f them deriving from jurisprudential differences\, some from the differenc e between religious law and secular-liberal law\, and some from the differ ences in the historical\, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.\n DTSTART:20160202T180000Z DTEND:20160202T193000Z LOCATION:Salle de conférence Stephen Scott (OCDH 16)\, Pavillon Chancellor- Day\, CA\, QC\, Montréal\, H3A 1W9\, 3644\, rue Peel SUMMARY:Maimonides and Contemporary Tort Theory: Law\, Religion\, Economics and Morality URL:/channels/fr/event/maimonides-and-contemporary-tor t-theory-law-religion-economics-and-morality-257777 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
