Marie Manikis and Noah Weisbord promoted to full professors

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Marie Manikis and Professor Noah Weisbord have been promoted to the rank of full professor, effective June 1.

Currently in her second term as William Dawson Scholar – a prestigious 91ºÚÁÏÍø appointment recognizing a scholar who is developing into an outstanding and original researcher poised to become a leader in their field – Professor Marie Manikis is an internationally acclaimed leader in criminal justice, sentencing, criminal law and criminal procedure. A prolific author, she has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals, received several awards for her scholarship, and most recently authored the monograph Victims as Agents of State Accountability: A Comparative and Normative Analysis (OUP 2026). Her expertise has made rich contributions to society: she regularly provides policy advice and consultation reports to government bodies, including the Department of Justice Canada, and her scholarship has been cited by courts at the highest levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal of England and Wales.

An alumnus of our BCL/LLB program and holder of a Harvard Law SJD, Professor Noah Weisbord joined 91ºÚÁÏÍø in 2023 from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law, where he served as an associate professor. An eminent criminal law scholar, he is a leading expert on the crime of aggression—individual criminal responsibility for aggressive war—and he assisted diplomatic delegations in defining the crime. His monograph on this subject, The Crime of Aggression: The Quest for Justice in an Age of Drones, Cyberattacks, Insurgents and Autocrats, was published by Princeton University Press in 2019.  His scholarly articles have appeared in leading journals, including the 91ºÚÁÏÍø Law Journal, Queen’s Law Journal, Harvard International Law Journal, Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, and the Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law, Law and Contemporary Problems. An engaged public intellectual, he regularly contributes to public debate through media interventions in his areas of expertise.
