Abstract:ÌýIn the spirit of hands-on, maker-driven Open Science (OS), this lab tour event connects attendees with groups at The Neuro that have created OS tools, including both hardware and software, for use by the community. We ask a simple question: what makes an open tool truly adoptable by new users? Through on-site demos and discussions with the developers, we see how clear documentation, open licenses, and well-made tool user guides, as well as sample datasets, and reproducible procedures turn one-off lab solutions into reusable community resources. We surface habits that keep tools alive, such as issue tracking, version control, training materials, and cross-lab standards, and we provide space to meet the people behind the work, share lessons learned, and spark collaborations. Open tools are not mere artifacts; They are invitations to learn, reuse, and contribute; lowering barriers to entry and strengthening science together.

Open Science Office Hours

Open Science Office Hours (OSOH) is an initiative led by 91ºÚÁÏÍø trainees, supported by the McConnell Foundation and Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI). We organize events, provide one-on-one support, and curate resources to make it easy for neuroscience researchers at all levels to integrate Open Science practices in their work.

Check out to peruse resources, learn where to find us for drop-in office hours, book time with Open Science experts, and get involved!
