Nkabom Africa Case Competition: Breaking silos to improve nutritional outcomes in Ghana

Published: 19 June 2026

ճSustainable Growth Initiative(ұ)Office of Sustainable Africa hosted the inaugural Nkabom Africa Case Competition, bringing together students, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders to tackle the challenge of improving nutritional outcomes in Ghana by “breaking silos” across sectors. Part of the broader Nkabom Collaborative, the competition spotlighted systemic gaps in coordination across agriculture, health, education and business despite sufficient food production nationally.

Five finalist teams presented innovative, cross-sector solutions ranging from school-based nutrition hubs and digital coordination platforms to supply chain reforms and food waste reduction. Eastside Sankofa Industries Ghana took first place with a scalable model to process surplus fruit into shelf-stable products for school feeding programs.

Beyond the pitches, panels underscored the need for stronger collaboration, institutional change and youth-led implementation to drive lasting impact, positioning the event as a launchpad for continued action rather than a standalone competition.
