Please register to j oin the waiting list****\n\nHow far would you go to do what is right? W ould you risk your life or that of your family? Why would some people risk it all\, while others are not able to do so? If you could learn how to be more courageous\, would you?\n\nJoin us\, 91ºÚÁÏÍø students\, faculty\, alu mni\, and friends\, to learn about the Moral Courage Project\, a new\, int erdisciplinary initiative dedicated to understanding what gives an individ ual the strength to stand up for others when it matters most. History offe rs insight: during the Holocaust\, only a small minority risked their live s to help persecuted neighbours\, colleagues\, and strangers. The vast maj ority did not. Why? What enables a person to override fear and social pres sure—and choose to help anyway?\n\nIf we can unlock the why\, then we can pursue the how\, and inspire a whole new generation to act courageously - imagine if we had more Ahmed al-Ahmeds\, more Paul Rusesabaginas\, more Ha rriet Tubmans in the world. What a place that would be!\n\nThis event is f ree and open to public\; registration is required.\n\nProfessor Ian Gold\, Director of the Moral Courage Project\, will host a distinguished visitin g speaker\, Professor Kristen Renwick Monroe\, with introductory remarks f rom Professor Lisa Shapiro\, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.\n\nThis event is supported by the Maxwell Cummings Lecture in the Humanities endowment fun d.\n\nProfessor Ian Gold is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Philo sophy Department and Professor of Psychiatry at 91ºÚÁÏÍø whose work bridges the study of mind\, ethics\, and social understanding.\n\nProfessor Kriste n Renwick Monroe is the Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of California\, Irvine\, and Founding Director o f the Interdisciplinary Center for the Scientific Study of Ethics and Mora lity.
