Commerce and Curation: Methods for Circulation
Discussion with Prof. Bielo on Tuesday 31 March, from 4 - 5:30pm.
Senior Common Room, Birks Building.
Refreshments provided.

The Secondhand Sacred exhibit features material vestiges of Christianity sourced from secondhand venues such as eBay, estate sales, thrift shops, and antiques stores. Featuring tracts, board games, art and posters, pins and patches, dolls, statues, and much more. In a talk accompanying the exhibit, Professor Bielo discusses methods for studying the objects that we buy, sell, collect, give, and discard. How are lived religious objects transformed into secondhand commodities? How do these objects blur boundaries between commercial and sacred contexts, and between private and public spheres? What makes “religion” after all?

The Secondhand Sacred exhibit runs from March 31-April 30 in Birks Building lobby.
